U.S.A. Independence Day (4th of July) Theme

U.S.A. Independence Day (4th of July) Theme

Many countries celebrate Independence Day to recognize freedom from the rule of another country. In the United States, Independence Day is celebrated on July 4th. In fact, most people in the U.S. refer to Independence Day simply as the Fourth of July. The July 4th date is Independence Day because it is the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a document written by Thomas Jefferson during meetings of the Second Continental Congress in 1776.

By the time the Declaration of Independence was written, the Second Continental Congress had been meeting for more than a year, and the Revolutionary War had already begun. At first, the colonies were fighting for repeal of what they called “intolerable acts” of the British government. The acts were being enforced to punish the colonists after such uprisings against Great Britain as the Boston Tea Party.

June 19th - Juneteenth - Emancipation Day--Freedom Day
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. State of Texas. Celebrated on June 19, the term is a portmanteau of June and nineteenth, and is an official annual holiday in 29 of the United States. The holiday originated in Galveston, Texas; for more than a century, the state of Texas was the primary home of Juneteenth celebrations. However, one small community in Arkansas (Wilmar) boasts that its celebration, called "June Dinner" has been consistently observed and celebrated, except for one year, since approximately 1870. Since 1980, Juneteenth has been an official state holiday in Texas. ... Its informal observance has spread to some other states, with a few celebrations even taking place in other countries. - Wikipedia
