Fire Safety Week Oct. 6-12





Fire Safety Week is observed October 6th through October 12th.
This is a great opportunity to introduce fire dangers, fire awareness, fire safety concepts, and prevention with your students.
The National Fire Protection Association has supportive tools for Fire Safety Week including videos for children and a quiz.

Johnny Appleseed's Birthday 9-26












Happy birthday, Johnny Appleseed! John Chapman, the real Johnny Appleseed, was born on this date in 1774 in Leominster, Massachusetts. A pioneer nurseryman, Chapman became a legend during his own lifetime for his leadership in conservation, his kind and generous ways, and his introduction of apple trees across a large portion of the young nation.  Let's celebrate this amazing pioneer!  What is your favorite type of apple?

Shel Silverstein Birthday 9-25-30


Today we celebrate Shel Silverstein, illustrator, poet, writer, and musician, born on this date in 1930. Creator of such favorites as "Where the Sidewalk Ends," "The Giving Tree," and "Falling Up," Silverstein died in 1999.  We honor the legacy of this unique American!
