Fathers' Day began in the United States. Today, the holiday is recognized in 52
countries.
2. The idea for creating a day for children to honor
their fathers began in Spokane, Washington.
3. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.
4. The following year, Dodd began the tradition of wearing a red rose to signify a living father and a white rose to honor a deceased one. She wanted to honor her father who had raised his children while being a single parent.
