U.S.A. Independence Day (4th of July) Theme
Many countries celebrate Independence Day to recognize freedom from the rule of another country. In the United States, Independence Day is celebrated on July 4th. In fact, most people in the U.S. refer to Independence Day simply as the Fourth of July. The July 4th date is Independence Day because it is the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a document written by Thomas Jefferson during meetings of the Second Continental Congress in 1776.
By the time the Declaration of Independence was written, the Second Continental Congress had been meeting for more than a year, and the Revolutionary War had already begun. At first, the colonies were fighting for repeal of what they called “intolerable acts” of the British government. The acts were being enforced to punish the colonists after such uprisings against Great Britain as the Boston Tea Party.
